Alpine skiing
Tarvisio is the most popular ski resort in the Julian Alps.
You’ll find 18 slopes for a total of 32 km, from black runs like the Di Prampero that descends from Mount Lussari to the Duca D’Aosta practice slopes.
You’ll find ten ski lifts and can ski even during periods of lesser precipitation thanks to artificial snowmaking systems.
Snowboarders will also find a snow park, while children can have fun in the snow playground.
You’ll also find many other slopes in the nearby resorts of Sella Nevea and Pramollo – Nassfeld.
Cross-Country skiing
With 55 km of trails, the Tarvisio area is a true paradise for cross-country skiers, whether they prefer alternating pace or freestyle.
If you choose the trails in the lower and upper Val Saisera and the Fusine plain, you’ll find yourself in fairytale landscapes, completely immersed in nature.
Another popular trail is the Arena Paruzzi loop in Tarvisio.
Or you can choose easier trails like those in the Valbruna and Camporosso plains, where you can also find cross-country schools and equipment rentals.
Cycling and mountain biking
We’ve already told you about the Alpe Adria cycle path.
We’d also like to add that right from Tarvisio, you can continue on the main route, or you can take the branch that leads to Fusine, and after crossing the Slovenian border, to the towns of Kranjska Gora and then Jesenice.
However, if you’re based in Tarvisio, you have other beautiful routes, such as:
- for road cycling, the Tarvisio – Predil – Sella Nevea – Chiusaforte – Pontebba – Tarvisio circuit, from Chiusaforte returning along the Alpe Adria cycle path (75 km) or descending to Moggio and returning to Pontebba via Sella Cereschiatis (98 km);
- also for road cycling, the circuit that passes through Italy, Slovenia, and Austria: Tarvisio – Arnoldstein – Wurzenpass – Podkoren – Tarvisio (48 km);
- For road bikes, the Tarvisio – Cave del Predil – Bovec – Vršič Pass – Kranjska Gora – Tarvisio circuit (90 km);
- For gravel bikes, the Tarvisio – Dogna (using the Alpe Adria cycle path) – Rifugio Grego (traveling along the entire Dogna Valley) – Val Saisera (descent along a dirt forest road) – Tarvisio (68 km);
- For gravel bikes or mountain bikes, the Tarvisio – Camporosso – Val Bartolo – Feistritz an der Gail – Gailitz – Arnoldstein – Tarvisio circuit (44 km)
And don’t forget the now famous climb up Mount Lussari, the final stage of the 2023 Giro d’Italia.
Other sports
If you’re a sports enthusiast, you’ll find many other options in the Tarvisio area, including:
- in summer: tennis courts (250 meters from your apartment), “Senza Confini” golf course (1,200 meters), a sports hall with a soccer field, horseback riding (in Valbruna), and rock climbing (both rock and free climbing);
- in winter: dog sledding (in Fusine), snowshoeing, and ice skating (in Pontebba).
